Abstract
This book gives a comprehensive account of the origin of the Taliban movement and the reasons for its phenomenal success. The impact of the ethnic divide on Afghanistan's future and the repercussions of the Taliban's extreme religious views on Pakistan and other neighbouring countries, has been examined in depth. Pakistan's Afghan policy, after the emergence of the student militia, has been critically analysed to see if it has served the country's long-term interests. The author has tapped primary sources which give a great deal of originality and authenticity to the book.
