Abstract:
"Maswood explores global trade and regulatory structures that have inhibited the capacity of developing countries to improve their economic conditions. In particular, the book looks at institutional structures of the World Trade Organization and the Doha Round negotiations to assess the possibility that this round will live up to its designation as the 'development' round. Developing countries are also aware that on-going multilateral negotiations will establish ground rules for the emerging global economy and they have participated actively, unlike in the past, to protect and advance their interests. They have heightened expectations that the first WTO trade negotiations will ultimately deliver improved outcomes in areas of interest to developing countries, and the book looks at the prospects and the challenges that confront them in their task."--BOOK JACKET.
