Abstract:
This volume introduces the various social institutions that humans find themselves in such as families, groups, and communities and encourages readers to understand the nature of these and other key macro institutions' impact on human behaviors (and vice versa). The author follows CSWE (Council on Social Work Education) outlines for macro HBSE (Human Behavior and the Social Environment) courses throughout this text, and he provides distinctive topical coverage including the impact of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina; human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide in international communities and their effect on human needs; and theoretical discussion of terrorism and terrorist activities. The primary chapters include a section on knowledge and theories, followed by the impact on economic and social forces upon these topics. Readers develop a solid knowledge of different macro HBSE theories including community, human conduct, inequality, and group theories.
