Abstract:
"Georgia O'Keeffe is one of the great artists of the twentieth century, and one of the most loved. Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, holds the largest collection of her work, as well as her archives and her two homes. It also houses the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Research Center, the only museum-related facility dedicated to the study of American Modernism (1890-present)." "This illustrated volume offers a comprehensive overview of O'Keeffe's paintings, drawings, and sculptures. It also reproduces a number of her own photographs, most of which have not previously been published." "More than 300 plates, all reproduced in full color, also include a generous portfolio of photographs - many of O'Keeffe - by Alfred Stieglitz, her husband and mentor, as well as photographs of the artist by other renowned photographers such as Ansel Adams, Eliot Porter, Philippe Halsman, Yousuf Karsh, and Tod Webb. In addition, there are a number of works by American Modernist painters - George Bellows, Thomas Hart Benton, Oscar Bluemner, Juan Hamilton, Marsden Hartley, Robert Henri, Edward Hopper, John Marin, and John Sloan among them. Published in the tenth year after the founding of the Museum, this book documents the growth of the collection, which has more than quadrupled in that time. A detailed chronology and a selected bibliography round out the volume."--Jacket.
