Abstract:
Success at work now depends less and less on how good you are at specific skills and more and more on office politics. Often thought of as a dirty word, office politics is in fact an inevitable part of working life and is a major contributor to a successful career. With only 11 per cent of people now employed in making things, such as the manufacturing industry, the great majority of us work in jobs where relationships are crucial. Intelligence tests account for about one quarter of how well people do in their careers; office politics skills accounts for most of the rest. Including real-life stories, questionnaires and advice based on science, this book provides a fascinating insight into the world of office politics.
