This second in a series of annual volumes for the National Bureau of Asian Research's Strategic Asia Program (former Chair of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff John Shalishkashvili served as senior advisor) explores the current strategic environment of Asia and presents five-year forecasts of the regions future from the perspective of U.S. national security institutions. Separate chapters are provided on the United States, China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Islam and Asian Security. Also included are corresponding data tables and figures related to economic growth, balance of trade, demographic change, and military force.
