Abstract:
This book takes the leading cases decided by the U.S. Supreme Court and gives a summary description of the case and what it means for police and citizens. Cases are briefed in a common format to allow for comparisons among cases. The significance of the case is explained so the reader can understand exactly what impact the case has on citizens and the police. A summary capsule is included with a one-sentence summary of the case. The eighth edition contains briefs of new cases dealing with the exclusionary rule, stop and frisk, searches after arrest, vehicle stops, Mirandizing of suspects, and the right to counsel. New ancillary case studies and online self-study questions allow students to apply their knowledge of the law.
