Three basic challenges are encountered in reconnecting services in a no-dig manner: (1) finding the lateral, (2) re-establishing the lateral opening, and (3) positively connecting the lateral to the liner or carrier pipe. The study revealed that most of the technical challenges are not overwhelmingly difficult. Significant reductions in the cost of water main rehabilitation can be achieved once methods are developed to reconnect services without excavating a large hole at each one. The final report discusses the rehabilitation methods, the technological challenges to be overcome, various tools that can be applied, the ideas developed at the workshop, and the results from the tests.
